فصل اول، به نخستین مظاهر آموزش نوین که با کوشش نخبگان سیاسی و دیوانی صورت گرفت می پردازد و فصل دوم، به نقش فرهیختگان فرهنگی و کوشندگان اجتماعی و اقتصادی در این مسیر اختصاص یافته و در ادامه تغییر نگرش نیروهای مذهبی به آموزش نوین را مورد بررسی قرار داده است. در این تحقیق علل نقش آفرینی مجامع و شخصیت های مذهبی در عرصه آموزش و جایگاه مهم آنان در این زمینه در عصر محمدرضا پهلوی تبیین شده است. همچنین از خلال مباحث آن می‌توان به تأثیر آموزه‌های مذهبی بر کنش سیاسی و اجتماعی دانش‌آموزانی که در این مدارس درس خواندند پی برد. دکتر حمید کرمی پور، نویسنده کتاب، استاد تاریخ معاصر در دانشگاه تهران است.
