Chandler's novels are works of literature before they are detective stories. He used to say: The color of the story, apart from the mystery factor, should have dramatic tension and rich human content. At the same time that Chandler allows violence and accidents into the atmosphere of his stories, he does not neglect the description of the social environment and the description of the psychological changes of his characters. The poetic and humorous images are surprising. The Lady of the Lake is Chandler's fourth long novel and is considered one of his best works. The theme of this story had a special attraction for Chandler; He first published it as a short story in 1939. In 1943, by expanding the core of the story, he created the novel The Lady of the Lake in its current form. Readers' acceptance of this novel caused Metro Goldwyn Mayer to make a movie based on it in 1946. The director and main actor of the film was Robert Montgomery.
