Selections and authentic essays of western sociology from the 19th century till the late decades are gathered here in the present book. While defending their style in selecting essays, the authors recommend the reader to distinct and select according to a criterion. According to them, the base for writing the present book and arranging its chapters, were the main concepts and subjects of such science instead of sociology domains and schools, because they believe that paying more attention to the domains and schools, reduce the real importance of the main concepts.

در كتاب حاضر گزيده ها و مقاله هاي اصيل جامعه شناسي غرب از سدة نوزدهم تا دهه هاي اخير در يك جا جمع آمده است. تدوين كنندگان كتاب ضمن دفاع از شيوة خويش در انتخاب مقاله ها، خواننده را نيز به تشخيص و گزينش معياري سفارش مي كنند. آنها به جاي حوزه ها و مكاتب جامعه شناسي، مفاهيم و مقوله هاي عمدة اين علم را مبناي تدوين كتاب و تنظيم فصل هاي آن قرار داده اند، چون عقيده دارند توجه بيش از اندازه به حوزه ها و مكاتب، اهميت واقعي مفاهيم اصلي را كاهش مي دهد.
