A complete basic course in English phonetics and phonology, used in many parts of the world, by native and non-native speakers who may be training to teach English or studying the language at advanced level. The edition takes account of recent developments in the teaching of phonology. At the end of each chapter there are notes giving information on further reading, some discussion of difficult issues and suggestions to teachers. This material is based on the information that was previously presented in a separate Teacher's Book. In addition, each chapter ends with a few practical exercises to test understanding of the material in the chapter.
