The present book is dedicated to the biography of Rudaki, his life, and a study of his works. Jafar ibn Muhammad Rudaki was an Iranian poet of the fourth century AH who lived during the Samanid rule. The book's first chapter includes information such as Rudaki's life, his name and nickname, the year of birth and death, and Rudaki's presence in the Samanid court. The second chapter is dedicated to the subject of Rudaki's blindness. The story of Nasr II being a Qarmatian, a Samanid captive, and his relatives, like Rudaki, is the subject of the third chapter. The final chapter also examines Rudaki's works. According to Hamdollah Mostofi, Rudaki's divan had 700,000 verses.

کتاب حاضر به شرح حال رودکی، روزگار او و بررسی آثارش اختصاص دارد. جعفر بن محمد رودکی،شاعر ایرانی سده‌ی چهارم هجری است که هم‌زمان با حکومت سامانی می‌زیست. فصل اول کتاب مطالبی چون حیات رودکی، اسم و کنیه‌ی او، سال تولد و وفات و حضور رودکی در دربار سامانیان را شامل می‌شود. فصل دوم به موضوع نابینا شدن رودکی اختصاص دارد. داستان قرمطی بودن نصر دوم، اسیر سامانی و نزدیکان او هم‌چون رودکی موضوع فصل سوم است. در فصل پایانی نیز آثار رودکی بررسی می‌شود. به گفته‌ی حمدالله مستوفی دیوان رودکی 700 هزار بیت داشته است. نمونه‌ای از اشعار وی بدین‌قرار است: در منزل غم فکنده مفرش ماییم/ وز آب دو چشم دل پرآتش ماییم/ عالم چو ستم کند ستمکش ماییم/ دست خوش و روزگار ناخوش ماییم....
