The present book is the story of a messenger who disembarked on a shore of a city named Urfalis and the captain and sailors promised to embark him from the same place twelve years later in this shore and took him back to his birthplace. The messenger named Mustafa, lived with people of the city as a stranger and most of the times was in his loneliness and from far thought in silent about the people he loves. He stay far to see them like seeing mountain from field is better, and he keeps quiet to understand the words that are not heard because of riot and mentioned it in a right time. After twelve years the ship came at the right time and is time for saying goodbye to people. Everybody came to shore and crying for wistfulness and more than any time the flame of love gets higher in their heart for leaving the one they love. Though their request and begging to stay reject, but in this last visit he answer to people's questions about what he has heard in his loneliness. (In Persian and English)

كتاب "پيامبر" قصه ي پيامبرآوري است كه روزي با كشتي در ساحل شهري به نام اورفاليس پياده مي شود. ناخدا و ملاحان كشتي با او عهد مي كنند كه دوازده سال بعد او را در همين ساحل سوار كنند و به زادگاهش بازگردانند. پيامبر كه نامش مصطفي است همچون غريبه اي در ميان مردم شهر زيست مي كند و بيشتر در خلوت تنهايي خويش به سر مي برد و از دور درباره ي مردمي كه آنها را دوست دارد، در سكوت مي انديشد. دوري مي گزيند تا مردمان را بهتر ببيند، چنانكه كوه را از دشت بهتر مي توان ديد، و سكوت مي كند تا سخناني را كه به سبب غوغاي سخن ها به گوش ها نمي رسد دريابد و به هنگام بازگو كند. پس از دوازده سال كشتي او در موعد مقرر باز مي گردد و هنگام وداع با مردم فرا مي رسد. همه در فضايي وسيع كنار ساحل گرد مي آيند و اشك حسرت مي بارند و بيش از هر زمان آتش عشق آن كس كه مي دانند به زودي تركشان خواهد گفت در دلهايشان شعله ور مي شود. هر چند شور و اشتياق و تمنا و التماس مردم براي ماندن او كارگر نمي افتد، اما او در اين آخرين ديدار در پاسخ به سوالاتي كه اصناف گوناگون مردم از او مي كنند آنچه را از لطايف معرفت از هاتف خلوتهاي خويش شنيده است براي ايشان باز مي گويد.
