The speech begins in Baghdad one afternoon in the 1990s and ends the next day in southern Iraq. Vague news from the south further disturbs this anxious afternoon, gathering the troubled and anonymous southern citizens and sending them to their city. The journey towards an unknown disaster gradually binds the hearts of foreign companions and opens tongues so that whoever is the narrator of the suffering that digs his soul can tell of Holi what he has experienced or the adventure he has seen with his own eyes. Meanwhile, even the prisoners of the soil come up to tell their stories and present a glimpse of Iraq's contemporary history. This narrative however is not a lament; Both sorrow is in his soul and the passion of love is woven in his throat; It is a mixture of sad narratives with playful anecdotes and sweet language; The theme is human and concepts such as destiny, surrender, will and effort, with a look at the beginning and end of Oedipus's work; It is a strong condemnation of the war that has brought the lives of the Iraqi people to the lips and, finally, an artistic and faithful depiction of the history of the last 100 years of Iraq.

اسفار سخن بعد از ظهر روزی در دهه ی ۹۰ میلادی در بغداد آغاز می شود و فردای آن روز در جنوب عراق به پایان می رسد. خبر مبهمی از جنوب این بعد از ظهر پرتشویش را بیشتر می آشوبد و همشهریان پریشان خاطر و ناشناس جنوبی را گرد هم می آورد و راهی شهرشان می کند. رهسپاری به سوی فاجعه ی نامعلوم به تدریج دل همسفران بیگانه را پیوند می زند و زبان ها را باز می کند تا هرکس راوی رنجی باشد که جانش را می کاود، از هولی بگوید که از سر گذرانده یا ماجرایی را نقل کند که به چشم دیده است. در این میان، حتا اسیران خاک نیز سربرمی آورند تا هم از سرگذشت خویش بگویند و هم شمایی از تاریخ معاصر عراق را پیش چشم ما عرضه کنند. این روایت اما غم نامه نیست؛ هم غم در جانش خلیده و هم شور عشق در تاروپودش تنیده؛ آمیزه ی روایت های اندوهبار است با حکایت های بازیگوشانه و زبان شیرین؛ طرح مسئله ی انسان است و مفاهیمی چون تقدیر و تسلیم و اراده و تکاپو، با نگاهی به آغاز و انجام کار اودیپ؛ تقبیح قاطعانه ی جنگ است که جان مردم عراق را به لب آورده و سرانجام، تصویر هنرمندانه و وفادارانه ای است از تاریخ صد سال اخیر عراق.
