The book " Al-Fahrest of Shi'ie Books and their Origins and the Names of the Scholars and Companions of the Origins" by Sheikh al-Taifa Muhammad bin Hassan Tusi (died 460) is one of the four ancient Shiite books on the art of indexing and juristic writing. کتاب «فهرست كتب الشيعة واصولهم و اسماء المصنفین و اصحاب الاصول» شيخ الطائفة محمد بن حسن طوسی (متوفی ٤٦٠) یکی از چهار کتاب کهن شیعه در فن فهرست و رجال نویسی است. مباحث مختلفی در خصوص کتاب الفهرست شیخ طوسی قابل طرح و بررسی است اما در این و جیزه تنها از یک نکته در خصوص این کتاب سخن میرود و آن مسئله چگونگی تألیف کتاب الفهرست است. کتاب حاضر در صدد مدلل کردن مطلب استاد ارجمند سید حسین مدرسی طباطبایی در خصوص کتاب الفهرست شیخ طوسی است که به گفته ایشان، شیخ طوسی، فهرست کهن تری را روزآمد و کامل کرده است. ایشان در اشاره به مدعای خود چنین نوشته اند: ... کتاب فهرست شیخ طوسی به روشنی تحریری از یک فهرست کهن تر شیعی است که برجا نمانده اما در دسترس نجاشی بوده و او اشتباهات آن را در موارد متعدد دریافته و به تصحیح آن همت گماشته است. مشترک بودن بسیاری از مطالب کتاب الفهرست شیخ طوسی و الفهرست نجاشی نیز شاهدی بر این مدعاست.
