The narrative of Turks and Mongols in Iranian and Islamic history is often a dual and contradictory narrative. روایت ترکان و مغولان در تاریخ ایران و اسلامی، اغلب روایتی دوگانه و متضاد است. از یکسو یورش ترکان و مغولان به ایران و سپس خلافت اسلامی، برابر با ویرانی و تباهی تلقی می‌شود و از سوی دیگر در خوانشی ترکی - مغولی، این رویداد یکسره افتخار و موفقیت روایت می‌شود. کتاب حاضر که به قلم استاد پیشکسوت دکتر محمدتقی امامی خوئی نوشته شده است، تلاشی برای ارائه تصویری منصفانه و مستند از نقش این تازه‌واردان در عرصه تاریخ و تمدن ایرانی - اسلامی است. هر چند که در بخش‌هایی از کتاب به حضور مغولان در سرزمین‌های شرق دور هم اشاره شده است اما بیشتر مطالب کتاب، مربوط به حوزه تمدنی ایران و اسلام است. مسأله تغییر دین و عامل تجارت در تحولات فرهنگی و تمدنی و نقش ترکان و مغولان در پیشبرد اهداف نظامی خلافت اسلامی، سه رویکرد اصلی در این کتاب است.
