"Retreat" is a phenomenon that has been politicized for several decades and the statistics show that its popularity is increasing every year. This increase cannot be the result of policy; Itikaf performs a social function, one of the most famous of which is "self-improvement or, in other words, freedom from sin". In this book, an attempt has been made to answer two main questions by examining i'tikaf: first, is it a manifestation of the guilt of today's religious people in Iran? And if so, what causes this feeling of guilt? And the second question is whether it is possible to talk about the existence of critical religion or not.

«اعتکاف» پدیده‌ای است که چند دهه سیاست‌گذاری شده و آمارها از اقبال رو به افزایش هرساله آن حکایت می‌کند. این افزایش نمی‌تواند صرفا نتیجه سیاست‌گذاری باشد؛ اعتکاف کارکردی اجتماعی ایفا می‌کند که یکی از مشهورترین آن‌ها «خودسازی و یا به عبارتی رهایی از گناه» است. در این کتاب تلاش شده است با بررسی اعتکاف به دو پرسش اصلی پاسخ داده شود: اول این‌که آیا اعتکاف نمودی از احساس گناه دین‌داران امروز ایران است؟ و اگر چنین باشد چه چیزی مسبب ایجاد این احساس گناه است؟ و پرسش دوم این‌که در حال حاضر آیا می‌توان از وجود دین انتقادی صحبت به میان آورد یا نه؟
