I am a persistent and serious documentary maker, I have been making documentaries since the late sixties and writing about Iranian documentary cinema. But this book is not a recollection of my documentary film's life, it is a recollection of this life. It was not intended to provide a history and report of the works. It is more about the thoughts and mental states and reflections of the documentary maker than about the inner feelings of the non-filmmaker. You go ahead and imagine that in my documentary life everything was according to August, well, it wasn't. But in my working life, I have not involved my mind in the obstacles and their whys and wherefores, and I have not seen the need to describe them here either. Not making difficult situations difficult and keeping my fist in my pocket in any situation has been my problem.

من مستند سازم پیگیر و جدی از اواخر دهه شصت مستند می سازم و درباره سینمای مستند ایران می نویسم. اما این کتاب خاطره گویی از زندگی فیلم مستندی من نیست ، خاطره خوانی از این زندگی است . قصد ارائه شرح حال و گزارش کارها در میان نبوده است . بیشتر به افکار و احوال ذهنی و تاملات من مستندساز نظر دارد تا به درون و حسیات من غیر فیلم ساز. پیش می روید و تصور می کنید در زندگی فیلم مستندی من انگار همه چیز بر وفق مرداد بوده ، خب ، نبوده . ولی در زندگی کاری ام ذهنم را درگیر موانع و چونی و چرایی آن ها نکرده ام و این جا هم نیازی به شرح آن ها ندیده ام. احوال سخت را سخت نکردن و مشت در جیب نگه داشتن در هر شرایطی مسئله ام بوده است.
