The events of this novel take place in 60th decades. The grandmother lives in one of the old houses in Tehran. She tries to make a close relation between close and far relatives and also with neighbors. "Mihrdad" the son of one of the neighbors was the close friend of her grandchild, "Kamran". But he died of an incurable disease. "Katayun" the member of that family cries too much and Mihrdad was affected by her mourning and falls in love with her. Their love is the great part of the novel.

وقايع اين رمان به دهه چهل باز مي گردد. وجود مادربزرگ در يكي از خانه هاي قديمي تهران باعث دلگرمي اعضاي خانواده و اطرافيان است. او سعي مي كند در حد ممكن بين خويشان دور و نزديك و حتي همسايه ها دوستي
برقرار كند. "مهرداد" پسر يكي از همسايها با نوه مادربزرگ "كامران" دوست صميمي است. ولي او بر اثر بيماري لاعلاجي جان مي سپارد.
"كتايون" از اعضاي اين خانواده بسيار شيون مي كند و مهرداد تحت تاثير ناله هاي او قرار مي گيرد و به او دل مي بندد. و اين عشق بخش اعظم رمان را تشكيل مي دهد.
