In this book the writers don't want to search about the past history of Christianity and churches, but they just wanted only to introduce the contemporary Christianity and Christian scholars' ideas from valid references. World Councilof Churches now is the most famous and effectual Christian departure in the world. In sixteenth century Christianity divided into two churches, East church and West church; which the West church its also took into two parts, Catholics and Protestants. But in the beginning of the 20th century the Christians decided to be together again, which is the achievements of "The Second Vatican Council".

در اين كتاب نويسندگان قصد كاوش تاريخ مسيحيت و تاريخ كليسا در گذشته را ندارد، بلكه تنها به مسيحيت معاصر نظر داشته است و كوشيده است تا ديدگاه هاي معاصر عالمان مسيحي را از منابع معتبر و بدون كم و كاست معرفي كند. شوراي جهاني كليساها اكنون برجسته ترين و موثرترين نهضت و جريان مسيحي در جهان است. مسيحيت از قرن شانزدهم در قالب دو كليساي شرق و غرب دچار تجزيه و انشعاب شده بود و كليساي غرب نيز در همان حوالي به دو مذهب كاتوليك و پروتستانت تجزيه شده بود، اما از آغاز قرن بيستم در بين مسيحيان گرايشي براي اتحاد مجدد پديد آمد كه شايد يكي از دستاوردهاي "شوراي واتيكان دوم" بود.
