In this book, the author explores everyday speech to put us in front of the surprise in our words; we often use covered words because speech at its multiple levels is a set of metaphors, obscured by its utilitarian and poetic meanings; and its semantic depth that hides social values. We can read this book as a record of our words, or as a heritage study to try to collect verbal formulations before they disappear, or in order not to disappear, and finally as a quagmire for an anthropological study of forms of speech and the relationship of formulas to social values.

في هذا الكتاب تُنقِّب المؤلِّفة في الكلام اليوميّ لتضعنا أمام المفاجأة بكلماتنا؛ فنحن نستخدم في الغالب كلماتٍ مغطّاة ـ ذلك أنَّ الكلام في مستوياته المتعدِّدة هو مجموعة من الاستعارات، التي تحجب ألفتها الاستعماليَّة شعريَّةَ معانيها؛ وعمقَها الدلاليّ الذي يخبِّئ القيَم الاجتماعيَّة. ونستطيع أن نقرأ هذا الكتاب بصفته سجلًّا لكلامنا، أو كبحث تراثيٍّ لمحاولة جمع الصيغ الكلاميَّة قبل أن تندثر، أو من أجل ألَّا تندثر، وأخيرًا كتقميشٍ لبحث أنتولوجيّ يدرس أشكال الكلام وعلاقة الصيغ بالقيم الاجتماعيَّة.
