کتاب «سرزمین هزار دالان» رمانی نوشته ی «فرانسیس هاردینگ» است که اولین بار در سال 2012 به انتشار رسید. در جهانی زیرزمینی که در آن، شراب ها خاطرات را کنترل می کنند و عطرها ذهن ها را به دام می اندازند، نوزادان لبخند نمی زنند. حالت های چهره ی انسان ها به افراد آموزش داده می شود: برای کارگران و خدمتکاران، تنها چند حالت چهره که هیچ کدام عصبانی نیست؛ و برای درباریان، صدها حالت چهره که برای انتقال عواطف پیچیده و پنهان کردن حقایق، توسط «استادان صورتگر» طراحی شده است. اما دختری دوازده ساله به نام «نورفل» با موهای سرخ و قامت بلندش، متفاوت است: چهره ی او می تواند تمامی حالت ها را نشان دهد، آن هم به شکل غیر قابل کنترل، که یعنی «نورفل» نمی تواند دروغ بگوید. وقتی «نورفل» از زندگی در کنار یک استاد «پنیرساز» به نام «گرندیبل» می گریزد، به مهره ای برای نقشه های درباریان و البته به چهره ی یک انقلاب تبدیل می شود.
