Too hasty, too sensitive, too expensive, too greedy, too much. If we apply all these criteria along with extreme fascination and excessive interest in order to identify the sin and the sinner, it becomes clear to us that although it appears from appearances that gluttony is the least harmful of sins, it is likely to be the most pervasive. Precisely because of our extreme interests, our fascination with tasting the latest dishes in the most modern and expensive restaurants, and our obsessive and seemingly contradictory fear of getting fat, it can be concluded that we have fallen into the culture of gluttons. If gluttony is really a great sin, is there anyone among us who is not guilty?

بسیار عجول، بسیار حساس، بسیار گرانقیمت، بسیار حریصانه، بسیار زیاد. اگر تمام این معیارها را به همراه شیفتگی افراطی و علاقه مفرط به منظور تشخیص گناه و گناهکار به کار ببندیم بر ما روشن می شود که گرچه از ظواهر امر پیداست که شکمبارگی کم ضررترین گناهان است، اما احتمال می رود فراگیرترینشان باشد. دقیقا به سبب علایق افراطی مان، شیفتگی مان به چشیدن جدیدترین غذاها در مدرن ترین و گرانقیمت ترین رستوران ها و ترس وسواس گونه و ظاهرا متناقضمان از چاق شدن می توان چنین نتیجه گرفت که ما به فرهنگ شکمبارگان دچار شده ایم. اگر شکمبارگی حقیقتا گناهی کبیره باشد، کسی بین ما هست که گناهکار نباشد؟
