I don't like to work with patients who are in love; Maybe because of jealousy, because I also seek fascination. Maybe because love and psychotherapy are fundamentally incompatible. The good psychotherapist fights the darkness and searches for the light, while the dream love survives with ambiguity and crumbles with testing. I hate being in love. Although the words "patient" and "psychotherapist" are used in many of these psychotherapy stories, make no mistake: these are stories of all men and all women. The disease is always present and labeling is highly discretionary and depends on cultural, educational, and economic factors more than the severity of the disease.
