One of the aspects of the war between Fath-Ali Shah and the Tsar of Russia, which remained hidden from the historians of the East, was the issue of the independence of the provinces of Iran, which were located north of the Aras River. The first whisper of the independence of the Iranian province located north of the Aras River was during the reign of Queen Catherine II. Russia rose. Catherine II wanted to separate the said province from Iran. Potemkin, the chancellor of Catherine II, tried to achieve that goal and he acted mostly in the provinces where the majority of the inhabitants were Christians and even nominated himself to be the king in those provinces after their independence, but the province where the majority of the inhabitants were Muslims was under the influence of Potemkin's propaganda was not accepted and in other provinces where Muslims were in the minority compared to Christians, they were not satisfied to separate from Iran.
