Saadi and Shakespeare shine like two suns in the world of literature. Both are famous and sought after in the world of ghazals. If the East and the West want to introduce two very prominent figures in the field of ghazals to the world, without a doubt, both of these figures are the best representatives of the East and the West. In terms of the diversity of their works and the literary weight of their other works, they are equal and comparable. Just as Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth play a role in the brilliance of Shakespeare’s literary personality, Saadi’s Golestan and Bustan also contribute to Saadi’s literary personality by giving it greater consistency. Just as Shakespeare is unrivaled and unrepeatable in the field of ghazals in Europe, Saadi’s glory has also dazzled the eyes of many great Persian ghazals and even the Orient. The present work, written and edited by Dr. Ismail Shafaq (born 1956), a university professor, examines aspects of the personalities and literary reputations of these two famous poets and writers. It also carefully compares and analyzes Saadi's and Shakespeare's ghazals from the perspectives of content, motivations for composition, and rhetorical beauty.
