The book "The Case Against Reality" is a work written by "Donald Hoffman", which was first published in 2019. In this book, "Hoffman" introduces the theory of "adaptation over truth" (FBT), explaining that "natural selection" has directed the abilities of perception in organisms in such a way that the most influential aspects of the concept of adaptation —the ability to survive and reproduce—is more important than other aspects. Contrary to previous ideas about the relationship between perception and evolution, this theory states that perception only serves the concept of "compatibility" and not truth. Hoffman acknowledges that FBT may seem counterintuitive: "How can my perceptions be useful if they are not true and accurate?" He then tries to solve this problem with another theory: organisms react to their environment in the same way that humans interact with computer screens—through symbols that work but are mechanisms. They hide the inside of the computer.
