For hundreds of years, Turkish-speaking peoples have found joy and consolation in the profound words of the thirteenth century mystical poet, Yunus Emre. A child of Anatolia, Yunus Emre's personal life is but thinly documented. Yet this does not diminish the universality of his deep but seemingly simple verse. He was an embodiment of the all-consuming spirit of love: love of god, love of man, love of nature - manifested in one living in very troubled times. These verses of Yunus Emre are now available in English allowing those who do not know Turkish to delight in his message - as relevant and moving now as when he lived more than six hundred years ago.
