This is the first novel written by Kimiyayi, the story is about a national capitalist family named "Mubashir Inshayi" lived in Tehran. A family with culture, but not aristocrats, they are rich, who depends on their lands, but they are not feudal. This family has a political, religious and cultural father (Mirza); a noble and cultural mother (Abajan), who obey her husband and completely looked after her children. Two girls (Tal'at and Tavvus) with specialties, which such families needed, beautiful, sensitive, happy and had good situation for educating in that time, loved their parents and modern. A boy (Tahir) pure, open-minded, political, wise and loved his family. An old and big house in 'Ayn al-dulih district, a big and beautiful garden in Darband, a car with a devoted driver (Na'yim) and door-keeper, Tahir has a friend (Ali Khan) very noble and polite and open-minded that his love with Tal'at is the main event that happened in the novel. The friendship between Tahir and Ali Khan is an important character, which is separate of other characters. Another couple that is very important, Rahim and Surush are two evils. اين كتاب نخستين رمان كيميايي است، داستان درباره خانواده ي "مبشر انشايي" است كه از بورژوازي هاي ملي نوپاي كشور است، كه در تهران زندگي ميكنند. خانواده اي داراي فرهنگ و اصالت، اشراف نيست، اما ثروتمند است كه مبتني و متكي برملك ولي منتها فئودال هم نيست. اين خانواده متشكل از پدري (ميرزا) مقتدر و سياستگر، نجيب، مذهبي و با فرهنگ؛ مادري (آباجان) اصيل و با فرهنگ، پايبند و مجري همه سنتهاي كهن خانوادگي، او مطيع شوهر است و با چشماني باز و نگران مراقب فرزندان خود. دو دختر (طلعت و طاووس) با خصوصيات اخلاقي كه لازمه چنين خانواده اي مي باشد، زيبا، احساساتي، شاد و برخوردار از امكانات تحصيل بسيار خوب در آن زمان، عاشق پدر و مادر و پيشرو زمانه هستند. يك پسر (طاهر) پاك، روشنفكر، اهل سياست، رفيق باز، عاقل و خانواده دوست. آنها داراي يك خانه قديمي و بزرگ در محله عين الدوله و يك باغ بزرگ و زيبا در دربند هستند، يك اتومبيل شيك با راننده اي (نعيم) فداكار و دربان.
طاهر دوستي دارد (علي خان) بسيار نجيب و پايبند اخلاق و روشنفكر كه عشق او با طلعت درونمايه اصلي همه وقايع رمان خواهد شد. دوستي طاهر وعلي خان حماسه اي است جدا از شخصيت آدمها؛ در واقع اين دوستي خودش به تنهايي يكي از كاراكترهاي مهم رمان است. يك زوج بسيار مهم ديگر هم در رمان وجود دارد، رحيم و سروش دو شيطان اند. رحيم ناخواسته به خاطر تصميم ناعادلانه ميرزا
