The writer has tried to propound main principles of writing of historical subjects, mentioning documents and samples of deficiency or perfection of a work. Conveying the documents, where they have positive aspects, the writer has given a reason from main books of the history and the works of the great of such skill, and where they talk about defects, mistakes and shortcomings, there are examples of the writer's work and his mistakes in writings. So the present book is named "Khod Mosht Maly" which is a kind of critique from the writer himself

در كتاب حاضر كوشش شده است كه اصول اصلي فن نگارش مباحث تاريخي با ذكر شواهد و نمونه هاي نقص يا كمال يك اثر، مورد بحث قرار گيرد. مؤلف در نقل شواهد، آنجا كه جنبة مثبت داشته از كتب اصلي تاريخ و آثار بزرگان اين فن، شاهد آورده است و آنجا كه صحبت از نقائص و اشتباهات است و كوتاهي و قصور مورد نظر بوده، از آثار خود مؤلف و خطاهاي گذشتة او در نوشته ها، نمونه و مثل آورده است و به همين دليل نام كتاب "خود مشت و مالي" انتخاب شده كه در واقع يك نوع انتقاد از خود نويسنده به شمار مي رود
