Analyzing dialectical process of Iran's intellectual and cultural encounter with modernity, the present research pays attention to various political-social discourses appeared from the second half of 19 century and their correlation with discourse and conditions of modernity. So the main duty of the present research are 1st: Review of concept and phenomenon of modernity in its western and universal text and 2nd: Review of Iran's intellectual and cultural encounter with modernity from half of 19 century till now.

اين پژوهش، برای تحليل فرايند ديالكتيكی رويارويی فكری و فرهنگی ايران با مدرنيت، گفتمان های اجتماعی - سياسی گوناگونی را كه از نيمه ی دوم قرن نوزدهم در آن جا پديدار شده اند و همبستگی آن ها را با گفتمان و شرايط مدرنيت در كانون توجه قرار می دهد. از اين رو وظيفه اصلی اين پژوهش دو گانه است: نخست، بررسی مفهوم و پديده ی مدرنيت در متن غربی و جهانی آن و دوم، بررسی رويارويی فكری و فرهنگی ايران با مدرنيت از نيمه قرن نوزدهم تا كنون.
