There are few signs of destruction or pollution. The book also portrays a vibrant and dynamic economy that is steadily moving from production toward consumption. Shazdeh Hammam 5 challenges and reshapes many common perceptions of this magnificent region.

At the heart of the narrative is Taha, a Kurdish freedom fighter. Through his moving and often painful story, the author reflects on the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, the chemical attacks carried out against the Kurdish population, the migration of Kurdish refugees to Iran, and the suffering endured by the Kurdish people.

The first half of the book is filled with accounts of hardship and tragedy. Yet, as the protagonists themselves explain, their purpose is not to bring tears to the eyes of others, but to ensure that their experiences serve as lessons for future generations, so that no one will again seek war and conflict. Papoli Yazdi also raises a broader question: while tyranny may exist, why do so many people choose to follow it, enabling the deaths of millions?

The second half of the book introduces readers to contemporary Kurdistan and takes them on a tour of the charming city of Sulaymaniyah, a place characterized by peace, tranquility, and beauty. In Shazdeh Hammam 5, Papoli Yazdi vividly contrasts the Kurdistan of the past with the Kurdistan of today. Throughout the book, he emphasizes a central theme: development is impossible without freedom, and freedom is the fundamental prerequisite for all meaningful progress.
