This series follows a bicycling boy named Tom, who begins his journey in England and, after passing through several countries, enters Africa. After cycling through multiple nations along the eastern edge of the continent, he reaches its southernmost tip. From there, he sails to South America and continues his adventurous journey across the continent.

Tom travels through most countries in South America and eventually reaches North America. From the cold regions of North America, he moves on to Siberia, and from Russia, he enters Asia.

Alastair Humphreys created the character of Tom inspired by his own real-life travels and adventures. The European and African journey, the Americas, and Asia form the three volumes of the series “The Boy Who Biked Around the World.”
