پیش‌گفتارهایی بر منطقِ محض، که بخشِ مقدماتیِ پژوهش‌های منطقی را تشکیل می‌دهند، می‌خواهند راه را برای برداشت و پرداختی نو از منطق هموار کنند. این پیش‌گفتارها می‌کوشند نشان دهند که پایه‌گذاریِ منحصراً روان‌شناختیِ منطق، که زمانه‌ی ما ارزشی چنین فراوان بدان می‌دهد، بر خلطِ سطوحی ذاتاً گوناگون از مسائل، بر پیش‌فرض‌هایی اصولاً غلط درباره‌ی ویژگی و هدف‌های دو علمی که در این‌جا ذکر شده ــ یعنی روان‌شناسیِ تجربی و منطقِ محض ــ مبتنی است.
