Ziauddin Sardar is a writer and cultural critic. He is the director of the Center for Futuristic Studies and the editor of Muslim Critical Journal, an innovative quarterly about contemporary Muslim ideas and thoughts. He works in various fields from Islamic studies and futurology to scientific policy-making, literary criticism, information science to cultural relations, art criticism, and critical theory. He was born in Pakistan in 1951 and grew up in Hackney, East London. Ziauddin Sardar has worked as a TV reporter for London Weekend TV. He was a columnist for the New Statesman for several years and has served as a commissioner of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and a member of the Interim National Security Council. Ziauddin Sardar has published more than 45 book titles. The Future of Muslim Civilization (1979) and Islamic Futures: The Shape of Future Ideas (1985) are considered classic studies of the future of Islam.
