This book is a translation of four articles by Paul Ricoeur about "evil, history and hermeneutics". What brought these articles together and linked them together in their translation are the ideas of text and meaning. ... Perhaps history is the greatest text that can satisfy my desire for hermeneutics. However, the relationship between history and hermeneutics is because history is the only place where the signs of the absolute are preserved; the absolute gives its signs and hermeneutics welcomes the history that preserves these signs. Thus, through the "text" of history, hermeneutics understands the absolute. In the present selected articles, Paul Ricoeur distinguishes some hermeneutic experiences of the absolute: Taking, bearing, testifying, etc., because it is with these experiences that the absolute becomes the object of hermeneutics.
