This introduces the rich literature that examines the relationship between the legal and the political and explains the main characteristics of the branch of scholarship called political jurisprudence. Although scholars have produced a rich body of knowledge about that relationship, they are not commonly identified as forming a distinct school. It is suggested that political jurists neither possess a common political philosophy nor hold similar views on political questions. They are political jurists because they deploy certain common methods and are participants in a common conversation about the relationship between the legal and the political and of the way that political authority is constituted
