This book is an autobiography of a great English philosopher, John Stuart Mill with an introduction by Harold Lesky.
Our age prides to crowd prophets for their different ideas compete with each other; but the role they have is not as complete as Stuart Mill role. To be able to achieve the new ideas, against the injustice, the variety of morals, and unlimited tolerance- these were the adjectives and qualities that made Mill as a mirror of best things in his age. He as a great philosopher must went far from the limit area he had around himself.

اين كتاب زندگينامه ي خودنوشت ميل بزرگترين فيلسوف انگلستان است با مقدمه اي از هرولد لسكي.
عصر ما به انبوه پيامبراني كه به انديشه هاي متضادشان با يكديگر به رقابت بر مي خيزد مباهات مي كند؛ اما نقشي كه آنان ايفا مي كنند به جامعيت و كليت نقش استوارت ميل نيست. قابليت دسترسي به انديشه هاي نو، بر آشفتگي در برابر بي عدالتي، تنوع خلق و خو، و شكيبايي نامحدود- اينها صفات و كيفياتي بودند كه ميل را به صورت آيينه ي همه ي بهترين چيزهاي عصر وي در مي آوردند. او از محدوده ي محيطي كه مثل همه ي محيط ها دشوار و فشار آورند و انديشمندي بزرگ ناگزير بوده است كه از تنگناي آن بگريزد.
