Mir Muhammad Hashim Beg Fazuni Istrabadi, son of Jalal al-Din Naqqash, was a writer and poet of the 11th century AH who spent a long time of his life traveling in India, Iran, and the Arab world and collected the results of his reading, seeing, and hearing in the book Bahira. In addition to the preface and conclusion, this work has 44 chapters (some chapters consist of two or more chapters) that are presented in the form of a number of stories. The book was written in two major themes: history writing (chapters 1-27) and miracle writing (chapters 28-44), and the author has dedicated each chapter to a specific topic: from justice and the supernatural, habits, and the tyranny of kings to the insight, laziness, memory, and dreams of other people, and from seas, springs, and rocks to islands and amazing buildings. The book's specific subject matter and its reference to numerous first-hand sources, some of which are missing or at least have not been published, as well as the author's own observations and hearings, are among the book's strengths due to the novelty of the material.

میر محمّدهاشم بیگ فزونی استرابادی، پسر جلال الدّین نقّاش، از نویسندگان و شاعران سدۀ 11 ق است که زمانی دراز از عمر خویش را در هند، ایران و دیار عرب به سیر و سیاحت گذرانده و حاصل خوانده ها، دیده ها و شنیده های شگفتش را در کتاب بحیره گرد آورده است. این اثر، افزون بر دیباچه و خاتمه، دارای 44 باب است (برخی از بابها متشکّل از دو یا چند فصل اند) که در قالب شماری حکایت پرداخت شدهاند. کتاب در دو موضوع کلانِ تاریخ نویسی (ابواب 1-27) و عجایب نگاری (ابواب 28-44) به نگارش درآمده و نویسنده هر باب را به موضوعی ویژه اختصاص داده است: از عدالت و خوارق عادات و ترکتازی شاهان تا فراست و خسّت و حافظه و رؤیاهای دیگر مردمان، و از دریاها و چشمه ها و سنگها تا جزایر و عمارات شگفت انگیز. موضوع بندی خاصّ کتاب و استناد به منابع بسیار و دست اوّل، که برخیشان مفقودند یا دست کم به طبع نرسیده اند، و نیز شنیده ها و دیده های مؤلّف، به سبب تازگی مطالب، از محسّنات کتاب است.
