دکتر محمد حسین پاپلی یزدی، نویسنده کتاب معروف «شازده حمام» در ابتدای این اثر از دوران کودکی‌اش می‌گوید، دورانی که از هیاهوی مدرنیسم خبری نبود و هیچ سرگرمی‌ای از شنیدن قصه‌های مادربزرگ در شب‌های بلند زمستان و زیر گرمای کرسی لذت‌بخش‌تر نبود. ماجرای شاه‌عباس و پینه‌دوز هم یکی از همان قصه‌هایی است که مادربزرگ دکتر در یکی از همان شب‌ها برایش تعریف کرده است.
