Ham is trapped in his own house along with his servant, Claw, his father, Ng, and his mother, Nell. In this play, Samuel Beckett, who himself was a fan of chess, compared the final moments of chess with the last days and hours of life. Beckett realized that death is the final outcome, and no matter how one plays, one will eventually die. The play The End of the Game—or The Last Hand—was originally written in French and then translated into English by Beckett himself. This work, which is considered the pinnacle of Beckett's minimalist style, depicts the unmasked nature of mankind in the most beautiful way possible in the face of imminent death.
