The many similarities of mythological heroes in different cultures, and their obvious differences with historical heroes, have been one of the favorite topics of the vast majority of mythologists and other thinkers in related fields. In this book, after reviewing the evolution of the concept of the hero in history, the opinions of thinkers such as Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and James Fraser about the hero in myth are discussed in detail and three codified patterns emerging from the ideas are discussed in detail. Otto Rank, Lord Raglan and Joseph Campbell are three mythologists who, based on the ideas of their pioneers, have developed models to explain the theme, role and function of the hero in mythology. In addition, the genealogy of the hero in the myth, and the different view of the French thinker, René Girard, on the relationship between violence, sacrifice and the sacred have also been examined.
